Wohelo Uniform Information 2003

Most uniform items should be purchased through Maine Camp Outfitters prior to arrival at camp. We will have limited items at camp if needed during the summer (especially swimsuits and bathing caps) and will still be issuing pre-ordered rentals on the first day of camp.

We feel that the camp uniform is an important aspect of Wohelo and it has been a part of camp since 1907.  Besides saving time every morning deciding what to wear, at Wohelo we like to get to know the person, not their clothing.  All the campers and counselors wear appropriate uniform items all the time at camp.  Twice a week (Sunday Sivad, and Council Fire or Frog’s Frolic) the girls must wear the striped shirt, red jacket, blue shorts and white socks.

The REQUIRED UNIFORM consists of the following.

3 Navy shorts                   -     Wohelo logo OR

Plain Navy Shorts  – with no logos or designs.

No cut-off jeans or denim shorts.

5 T-shirts - Of three types: -             Striped (at least one)

        -             Navy-with Wohelo Bird

        -             White Long Sleeved – with Wohelo Bird

The shirts must be rented at camp or purchased through Maine Camp Outfitters. Other shirts are not acceptable.   Wohelo Tank top is appropriate as an extra shirt.

1 Red Jacket (fleece or chamois)– These can be rented, bought from camp, or purchased through Maine Camp Outfitters.  We have limited rental availability in larger sizes.

1 or 2 Scarlet red bathing suit - Plain scarlet red one-piece suit- please no striping or designs. Having two suits allows for one to dry.  We also have Dolphin suits available at camp in most sizes for $32 during the summer

1 Navy Sweatshirt   Wohelo Logo OR Plain Navy Sweatshirt – no writing or designs.

Name Tape/Labels- Maine Camp Outfitters will SEW in their own labels for free on orders before May 15th   ($100 minimum order).  We highly recommend this for orders through them.  The white and blue order form (enclosed) for the name stamp (Common Sense Products) is something we have found works well during the summer.   Ironed in name tapes sometimes come off in the hot camp dryer – we recommend sewing them on or using the rubber stamp.

Trunk- A rigid trunk is an important part of packing and keeping clothes organized during the summer.  Duffels are good for extra bedding (special pillow or blanket), stuffed animals, and things that will be unpacked for the summer, but they do not substitute for the rigid trunk. Maine Camp Outfitters offers what looks like a nice trunk.  Texas Case trunks, www.texascase.com, are nice and have proven very durable if you want to have a trunk for a lifetime.  When you mention you are ordering for Wohelo you get a discount, don’t forget the Wohelo Logo option.     Your local Wal-Mart type store may also sell inexpensive trunks.  These work OK for one summer but sometimes do not survive shipping.

Camp Store – We sell some toiletries, (toothbrush, shampoo, etc.), insect repellent, stationary and stamps, Wohelo Nalgene water bottles, swim caps, batteries,  and most items that campers need to replace during the summer.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Camp opens Sunday, June 22nd. Camp Timanous boys will also be on the chartered bus.  Final details will be sent by June 1st.  To help us make sure we have adequate space for every group, please send the form back immediately.  Thank you for your help.   Address correspondence to:

CAMP TRUNKS:  Please do not ask to have your child's trunk brought on the bus or plane.  There is not room for as many as would like to bring them, and it presents confusion on the first day of camp.  It is far better to mail the trunk and have it in place when the campers arrive.   If driving your child to camp, it is fine to bring the trunk with you.   Trunk tags are included in this folder and should read – CAMPERS NAME- Sebago Wohelo, 25 Sebago Wohelo Road OR Little Wohelo, 25 Little Wohelo Road,  South Casco, ME  04077

TRAVEL HOME:  If your child is planning to fly home, please let us know.  Reservations should be made now leaving Portland, Maine, the morning of  Friday, August 8th. The bus schedule for the trip home will be sent during the summer, and you may reserve then.
