CPR & LIFEGUARDING @ WOHELO

Wohelo will once again be offering a CPR challenge ($50) and a Lifeguard challenge ($75).  New CPR standards will be taught.  This course is offered for those that already have training and need to recertify.  For the lifeguard challenge, you need to be prepared to go in the water.  To register for either or both of these courses email  Wohelo@wohelo.com.

STAFF NOTES – SPRING 07

STILL LOOKING FOR COUNSELORS

There are select spots to fill at both camps.  Do you have friends that are looking for a fun, challenging, and different summer experience?  Do your friends always ask about Wohelo or is there a friend who you think would really enjoy the experience of teaching at Wohelo? No one knows better than you what it takes to be a good counselor – so ask your friend and let us know.

CLEANING UP INTERNET SITES

Wohelo is proud of its staff.  Your loyalty and your dedication make Wohelo the great camp that it is.  Websites that allow Wohelo friends to talk and share pictures are a fun way to keep Wohelo memories alive. Please take a moment to look at your webpage and view it through the eyes of a camp parent.  Make sure your website shows the Wohelo counselor that we are proud to invite back summer after summer.   We will be looking forward to viewing your sites starting April 1st.

HEALTH FORM
Please complete your health form as soon as possible and return it to camp.  If this is not filled out before you arrive, it will be necessary for you to have a physical exam with a local doctor.  An exam by a doctor (last page of the form) is required every two years.  If you were at camp last summer and visited the doctor before camp we can use that one.  The health history, however, should be completed every year.

START BRAINSTORMING
It’s not too early to start thinking about the summer and your job as a counselor.  Keep your eyes and ears open for fun games to play, or activities to do in your cabin.  You might go to your childhood bookshelf and pull a couple of books to read aloud to your girls.  It’s not too early to start thinking about how you can create a memorable relationship with your campers.  They can’t wait to meet you!

THE MEANING OF WO-HE-LO (excerpted from an interview with Charlotte Vetter Gulick, 1925)
There were three things which I wanted the girls who came to my camp to haveHealth was the first, for without it we are not of much use in the world.  Work was the second, to learn how to make and do things with out hands and the third was Love.  With Health, Work and Love, we have a perfect woman.  The word Wohelo is made from the first two letters of these three words.  It is a hobby of mine that all necessary work can be made interesting if we are big enough to make it so.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
We are happy to support counselors that are interested in any training programs that will help in developing their professional leadership at camp.  Enclosed is a list of clinics that are being offered at a local camp.  These courses are a terrific training opportunity and we hope that you are interested.  For a limited number of staff Wohelo will pay for partial or full costs of training.  Please contact Quincy or Heidi for details.
